Golden Books Family Entertainment Stock Certificate - Scripophily

“Notice the very low certificate number”.

This very hard to find certificate is the only one that I have. This is the first certificate of Golden Books that I have ever seen. The availability of these certificates in the market place are low since the company is out of business.

Golden Books Family Entertainment Inc., was a book manufacturer in Racine, Wisconsin for 60 years and a former publisher of children's books. The company filed Chapter 11, saying it has no money to pay unsecured creditors and no more assets to sell. Golden Books sold its assets to Bertelsmann AG's Random House books and Classic Media. It said in a filing with the courts that the $77.5 million it earned from that sale has been distributed or set aside to pay expenses.

``Having fully disposed of the assets and having further paid down their secured creditors, the debtors have reached the inescapable conclusion that there are no longer any available funds with which to support the continued administration of these cases, and there are no unencumbered assets available for distribution to any remaining unsecured creditors,'' the company filing said.

The bankruptcy case, filed in June, was the second by the company, once the largest seller of children's books.

Its titles included:
Pat the Bunny
The Poky Little Puppy
The Dr. Toy's
The Little Red Hen
The Lion's Paw
The Good Humor Man
The Fire Engine Book
Animal Orchestra
Richard Scarry's Good Night
Little Bear
